Stockton Heath is the first village centre in Britain to be given the Purple Flag award.

What is the Purple Flag?

The Purple Flag is awarded by the Association of Town  Centre Managers. It demands commitment to very high and sustainable standards, and usually goes to town and city centres. It rewards communities that make their centres vibrant, clean, welcoming and safe.

Why did Stockton Heath get the award?

And why is the Purple Flag important?

  1. It has brought together young and old, amateur and professional, residents and community leaders to form the Steering Group which guided the bid
  2. It has been the driving force behind the initiative which identifies village centre businesses (see across) whose toilets are available to the general public
  3. It is an accolade which makes businesses and domestic property more attractive to buyers
  4. It has established a standard which all partners have cooperated in achieving and will work to maintain
  5. It provides a boost to the the village economy
  6. It is an incentive for further improvement.
