Policies and Procedures

Parish councils, as they exist today, were established in law following the passing of the 1972 Local Government Act.   This Act provides the framework for how all parish councils operate.   As well as the procedures laid down by that law and other specific Acts of Parliament, a parish council can also adopt procedures and policies to show how it will act in specific circumstances.   By making these available through the website, the council enables the public to see clearly how, for example, the council will deal with any complaints it receives, or how it will look after the trees on its land.   New policies may be necessary to keep up with changes in the law and existing policies are reviewed at regular intervals to ensure they are still relevant, appropriate and legally compliant.
